Job Description:

* Purpose of Job: The purpose of this classification is to plan and manage all Knox County WIC Program nutrition education activities including nutrition staff supervision, training, skills review and development, community outreach with health care providers

* Essential Functions

*The WIC Nutrition Program Manager is responsible for the following essential functions:

*Directs WIC nutrition education activities, and activities of the nutrition education team, to ensure integrity and program compliance with US Department of Agriculture, State of Tennessee, WIC grant scope of service agreement, and local regulations.

*Supervises, mentors, and trains staff and assumes department role in hiring staff.

*Directly supervises two WIC Team Lead positions and WIC Outreach & Promotion Coordinator.

*Prepares and submits annual Regional Nutrition plan by establishing program goals and objectives, assisting in establishing program protocols and policies, assessing program for ongoing improvements, and reviewing previous year plan for outcomes.

*Collects documentation records and appropriate data and prepares regional activity reports that include responses and corrective actions to audit findings. Routinely communicates program progress and concerns to WIC Director.

*As needed, can provide direct client care by assessing WIC eligibility and nutrition risks, providing accurate and evidence-based counseling, developing resolutions to nutrition-related problems, documenting contacts appropriately, assisting staff with client problems as needed, and providing referrals to appropriate health services.

*Works with WIC Outreach & Promotion Coordinator to identify marginalized and underserved WIC-eligible populations and assists in developing strategies to promote WIC services throughout the community.

*Meets with all WIC department nutrition staff regularly to address issues or concerns and provide routine supervision and support.

*Determines staff training needs and arranges continuing education opportunities for all WIC department nutrition education staff.

*Works with WIC Director to conduct WIC staff meetings as appropriate.

*Works with WIC Director to schedule weekly clinic coverage. Develops plans to assure client services are not disrupted in the event of staff absences.

*In coordination with the Academic Health Department Manager, assumes role in the precept of public health nutrition and other graduate students.

*Assures efficiency of service and productivity standards.

*Conducts TNWIC system chart reviews of the nutrition education team and provides feedback and guidance.

*Assists in establishing local program protocols and policies. Prepares for and participates in state monitoring visits, as well as other audits of WIC program expenditures and assets.

*Assists WIC Director in making grant spending decisions and preparing annual budget.

*Monitors program to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and assess for ongoing improvements to the program.*Serves on appropriate committees and workgroups when called upon within and outside Knox County Health Department, and in the community, as well as in coordination with State Central Office.

Candidate Requirements:
* Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Dietary Science, or related field
* Three years’ related experience in related field
* Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered for employment into the position
* Certification as a Registered Dietician and a current State of Tennessee RD license is required.
* The individual holding the position must also meet qualifications of a Competent Professional Authority (CPA) and qualification to certify WIC program applicants for eligibility based on nutrition risk assessment.

Assesses the nutritional status of adult and/or geriatric patient through documentation in the medical record.
a. Uses assessment parameters such as anthropometric measurements.
b. Uses visual physical assessment parameters of nutritional status.
c. Reviews and interprets nutrition-related laboratory values.
Develops and revises a nutrition care plan based on information from the patient, medical record, family and health care team members.
a. Develops and implements individualized nutrition care plans according to standard of nutrition care for particular diagnosis.
b. Nutrition care plans are documented in the medical record.
Incorporates current evidence-based research into practice.
Communicates effectively with all team members, patients and families through conferences, individual consultation and committee participation. This includes telephone, written, and electronic communication.
a. Participates actively in interdisciplinary meetings and committees concerned with nutrition/food service related issues of relevance to clients.
Completes all required documentation, reports and logs in a timely, professional and thorough manner.
a. All consults are completed timely, per NFS policy.
b. All documentation is completed in the Cerner EMR.
c. Completes daily productivity records to track number patients seen, acuity and disease-specific needs.

Candidate Requirements:
Master’s preferred, will hire RD-eligible
State licensure within 12 weeks of hire date
