Member Meeting: Bariatric Surgery – Weighing out the Nutrition

Please join us as we host Rachel Ignomirello, MS, RDN, LDN, CSOWM on Thursday, October 22nd, from 3-4 PM EST. 

Rachel received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition and Food Science (Dietetics concentration) from Middle Tennessee State University in 2014.  She went on to complete a Masters of Science in Public Health Nutrition and finished her dietetic internship at UT-Knoxville in 2016. She currently works as the outpatient and bariatric dietitian for Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center.  Most recently, she passed the CDR exam making her the first RD in the Knoxville area to become a Certified Specialist in Obesity and Weight Management.

  1. Identify and compare common bariatric procedures performed in the U.S.
  2. Summarize key components of the bariatric nutrition assessment
  3. Describe common vitamin and mineral deficiencies following bariatric surgery
  4. Identify potential complications associated with bariatric surgery
  5. Discuss special considerations associated with bariatric surgery
  6. Explore ways to improve patient success following bariatric surgery
